RTTO FIS Nordic Ski Race

The Event Contingency Group met on the evening of November 10, 2025, and after reviewing the current conditions at both GPRA and the backup venue at Independence Mine, we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Race to the Outhouse.

We’re disappointed to miss out on hosting the first race start in North America, but we’re looking ahead with excitement to the eight remaining FIS races in Alaska scheduled before the end of the year.

Thank you to all of our racers, volunteers, and sponsors for your ongoing support — we’ll see you on the trails soon!

The Mat-Su Ski Club

The RTTO is a FIS-sanctioned race along the trails of GPRA (Government Peak Recreation Area) located at the base of Hatcher Pass in Palmer, Alaska.

November 15 - 16, 2025

FIS LEVEL RACE

The Race to the Outhouse (RTTO) is currently scheduled as the North American opener of the 2025-26 ski race season. The RTTO is a FIS-sanctioned race. Serious competitors have the opportunity to get precious early-season FIS points. For the rest of us, it is an opportunity to wipe the dust off and get the season going.

The races are scheduled for Government Peak Recreation Area (GPRA) on homologated Nordic courses. Race format is TBD. The course homologations are posted on the FIS website; course maps from 2024 are visible to the left.

Backup location will be at Independence Mine at Hatcher Pass.

Entrants in the competitive race must have a USSS or FIS license. A “Citizen’s Race” follows for all each day after the competitive race.

Racers must pre-register online. There is no same-day registration.

Competitive-race registration will close at noon on November 11.

Citizen-ski competitors may register until November 14th at 8pm.

FIS races will start at 10am each day followed by the Citizens Race.
