Annual Meeting Highlights

Following our Après Ski celebration, we gathered for our Annual Membership Meeting sharing board election results and a look at what’s ahead for the club.

We’re especially excited to be moving forward with trail expansion this summer, picking up right where we left off last season. This is the first step of many in improving and expanding the GPRA trail system, and we can’t wait to see it take shape. Stay tuned for more updates as the ground thaws!

Board elections are an important part of each season, and we’re grateful to our members for participating. Our board plays a key role in guiding the club, with members contributing significant time and energy both in and out of the boardroom.

Please join us in welcoming Michelle Pavlik and Stephanie LaRousse to the board, and in celebrating Ed Strabel, longtime member and founder, as he returns for another term.

We also extend a heartfelt thank you to Steve Brown, Ailis Vann, and Tegan Thorley as they step off the board. Their dedication and contributions have made a lasting impact on the club.

This season was powered by people - volunteers giving their time, staff keeping everything running, and a community that continues to show up and support it all. Thank you for being part of it. The future is bright, and we’re excited to keep building it together.

Corduroy & Commitment: Thank You, Snow Crew

Our trails don’t just happen—they’re built with care, grit, and an incredible amount of heart.

Did you know that each season, our volunteer grooming team donates on average, over 900 cumulative hours of their time to create the corduroy our community loves and expects. From as early as October, they begin grooming at Independence Mine, and Archangel Road and into GPRA and other trails around the valley as snow levels rise. Grooming often continues into May, right up until the snow melts or Gold Cord road opens for summer. Through dark mornings and late nights, in cold and unpredictable conditions, a dedicated crew of plus or minus 28 volunteers show up again and again.

They’re not only out on the trails laying down corduroy, they’re also behind the scenes maintaining equipment and coordinating repairs. It’s a massive, ongoing effort that they somehow make look seamless.

When conditions allow, the club operates two PistenBully snowcats at GPRA and Independence Mine. At other locations such as Archangel Road, Moose Range, and Mud Lake/Knik—our teams rely on snowmachines and other equipment to keep trails in shape. Long before the first snowfall and after wind storms, they’re clearing brush and removing trees to prepare and keep trails open for trail users.

This work is the backbone of everything we do. Groomed trails are the lifeblood of the Mat-Su Ski Club, and these volunteers are the reason we’re able to offer such incredible Nordic skiing opportunities to our community.
