THANK YOU !

The 2015 Mat Su Ski for Women was a fantastic event!  Even the weather turned out perfect. In the second year of this Valley event.... it grew over twice the size over last year both in number of skiers and donations. We had 104 skiers this year, and raised $1980 for Alaska Family Services to help women and families in crisis in the Mat Su region.

Thank you to everyone who helped to make this event a success including our volunteer committee of Rebecca Buchanan, Tracy Houser and Mary Ann Holmquist, awesome coordinators. Our Board and other Club members who volunteered to groom, set up, monitor, sweep, and take down. Maritt and many other volunteers who worked hard to make it all happen.

And of course a special thanks to our sponsor Mat Su Health Foundation, and all the local businesses who contributed the great raffle prizes, and all the folks who skied in such creative costumes and shared all those tasty dishes at the pot luck!

We'll do it all again next year!

Beautiful crust this morning. Softening on certain aspects but still very skateable at 10:30.

  • Archangel Road - 5:00 PM, Wed Apr 29, 2015 by Steve Cleary
Firm conditions even at the trailhead around 10:15 this morning. Skied up the road til I veered off to the right and skied up to the steep section below Reed Lakes. Decent crust for the most part. Some soft spots. Snow machine track were melted smooth and provided firmness and some relief in the flat light. Got too far down in the soft snow on the way back and had to walk back to the archangel road, which was considerably softer by noon. Hope for some more cold nights.

  • Archangel Rd - 6:00 PM, Mon Apr 06, 2015 by Ed Strabel
MSSC will groom the non-motorized portion of the road for classic and skating tomorrow, late AM. This could be the last time we will groom the road as we will be pulling our grooming equipment out from the trail head. If there is skiable snow in mid May we may groom for the "Big Dogs" as they start their 2015-16 ski season.
